The closure of Memphis College of Art next summer and the relocation of the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art to Downtown in 2024 means 186,000 square feet of space in Overton Park will need new tenants. On Monday, March 25, the city of Memphis launched an open call for “creative reimaginings” for both buildings called “Create Your Space.”

Sesame Street's own Elmo made an appearance in Memphis as part of the announcement of an early childhood initiative. Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street, has chosen Memphis to be a part of Sesame Street in Communities, an initiative to support parents and community providers to give children a strong start in life.
